A spicy political showdown is shaking the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Cherukunnu grama panchayat! The drama unfolded on November 28 when E. Baburaj, a rebel candidate from Ward 2 (Dalil), spoke to the media, throwing heavy allegations at the party leaders. Baburaj was kicked out of the party recently while serving as Kunnanangad centre branch secretary. Why? They claimed he was involved in "anti-organisational activities." But Baburaj fired back, saying, "Action was taken against me without seeking an explanation, and that it amounted to a violation of the party’s constitutional norms." Ouch! He revealed that his choice to fight against CPI(M) area committee member K. Mohanan stirred a storm. According to Baburaj, an "unspoken crisis" is bubbling inside the party at Cherukunnu, where corruption, mismanagement, and favouritism are apparently ignored. "Those who raised questions were sidelined and expelled," he said. One hot issue Baburaj highlighted was the mysterious closure of the Cherukunnu Cooperative Hospital. This hospital was born from lakhs of rupees collected through public shares, but later lost its valuable medical equipment. Baburaj alleges these items were sold off to the Government Medical College, Pariyaram. "The public has a right to know what happened to an institution built with their contributions," he declared. To make things more intense, Baburaj said he has been getting threats over phone and social media since he filed his nomination. He plans to fight back legally. This showdown hints at bigger problems inside the ruling front in Kannur district as local body elections approach. Rebel voices like Baburaj’s reflect the cracks growing louder, promising a fiery political battle!
