Cyclone Ditwah Brings Heavy Rain to Nellore; Andhra Pradesh on High Alert

Cyclone Ditwah caused heavy rainfall mainly in SPSR Nellore district on Sunday, November 30. Kavali recorded 88.75 mm of rain, while Jaladanki received 56.25 mm, Navooru 55 mm, and Bucchireddipalem 50.75 mm between 8:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. Light to moderate showers occurred in Chittoor and Tirupati. Other districts like Prakasam, YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, Krishna, and Sri Sathya Sai saw very light rain under 20 mm.
At 2:30 p.m., Ditwah was over the southwest Bay of Bengal, about 90 km east-southeast of Cuddalore and 150 km south-southeast of Chennai. By 5:30 p.m., it weakened into a deep depression, according to the IMD bulletin. It is expected to weaken further by Monday morning near the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast.
Heavy rain is forecasted for Monday in North and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions. Strong winds of 45-55 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, will occur before easing by Monday evening. Fishermen have been advised to stay off the coast until December 2.
Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha spoke with district officials and APSDMA over a video call. She said, "Officials should remain alert for the next 48 hours," and stressed continuous public warnings and field checks.
The Minister also ordered clearing of fallen trees and hoardings, quick restoration of power lines, deployment of officials at vulnerable spots, and evacuation of families to relief shelters if needed.
Two NDRF teams are deployed in Nellore and Kadapa, with three SDRF units in Venkatagiri and extra rescue forces on standby. The state is preparing to tackle any emergencies caused by Ditwah.
