India’s first monkeypox death: Kerala youth had tested positive abroad; probe ordered

A young man of 22, who had recently recovered from monkeypox, died in Kerala on Saturday. The deceased was working in the UAE when he was allegedly caught by the monkeypox virus, soon after which he got admitted in the hospital, and was instructed to rest on discharge. However, authorities only found out after the youngster’s death that he had symptoms of encephalitis and fatigue, and that he did not rest on return to India. Medics speculate the actual cause of the death as the virus doesn’t hold many chances of fatality, a thorough enquiry will be taken into consideration. Other cases of monkeypox have also been found in Kerala.
