Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting indigenous content in defence acquisitions. During the Defence Acquisition Council meeting, Singh emphasized the need for a minimum 60-65% indigenous content in defence equipment. This decision aims to boost self-reliance in the defence sector and reduce dependency on foreign imports. Singh highlighted that this move will not only strengthen the domestic defence industry but also bolster the country’s overall security. The Defence Ministry has approved 9 proposals in this regard, with the acquisition of 12 Su-30 MKIs standing out. These acquisitions, worth ₹45,000 crore, will contribute significantly to the indigenous manufacturing capabilities of the country.
