The state home department of Maharashtra, led by deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, has issued a directive to the Mumbai police for a fresh investigation into the death of Disha Salian. This move comes after demands from Shiv Sena and BJP MLAs for a review of the case. Senior inspector Chimaji Adhav of Malwani police station will carry out the probe under the guidance of DCP Ajay Bansal and additional commissioner Rajiv Jain.

Disha Salian, a celebrity PR manager, passed away on June 8, 2020. She had allegedly jumped off her fiance’s flat on the 12th floor of a highrise. Sushant Singh Rajput, whose work Disha had managed, also died a few days later on June 14, 2020.

The home department’s letter to Mumbai police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar states that the case of Disha Salian’s death is currently under debate, with various questions being raised. Advancements in the case have reportedly led to the possibility of new evidence emerging, necessitating a reevaluation of the case. If any new evidence is found, the executive magistrate should be informed for further investigation.

Disha Salian’s father, Satish, stated that he is unaware of the decision for reinvestigation and will need to further study it.

The initial investigation by the Malwani police had classified Disha Salian’s death as accidental, and the Mumbai Police conducted a thorough investigation. In 2021, they filed a final summary report that concluded there was no foul play involved in her death. The report included Disha’s autopsy findings, family statements, and an inquest panchnama.

During the state legislature’s winter session in Nagpur last year, the government announced the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe Disha’s death. However, no SIT was formed until the recent developments of the reinvestigation.
