The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received five times more donations in the previous year compared to four other national parties, according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). The ADR report revealed that the BJP received Rs. 742.98 crore in donations, while the Congress received Rs. 148.58 crore, NCP received Rs. 2.45 crore, CPI(M) received Rs. 15.57 crore, and CPI received Rs. 1.28 crore in the financial year 2022-23.
The report also highlighted that the BJP received the highest number of donations above Rs. 20,000, amounting to Rs. 610.85 crore, as compared to the other four parties which received a combined total of Rs. 209.08 crore. This suggests that the BJP continues to dominate in terms of financial contributions from various sources.
Furthermore, the report mentioned that the BJP accounted for 78.67% of the total donations received by all national parties in the previous fiscal year. The party has consistently been the highest recipient of donations among national parties over the years.
The ADR report also shed light on the sources of funding for political parties. It revealed that the BJP received the highest donations from corporate/business sectors, followed by individuals and electoral trusts. The report underlined the need for greater transparency and accountability in political funding.
