India has highest tariffs on inputs in electronics sector: ICEA study

India has the highest tariffs on inputs in the electronic segment among competing economies, according to a study conducted by the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA). The study analysed input tariffs in the electronics sector across five nations including India, China, Vietnam, Thailand, and Mexico. The study found that India’s high tariffs impact the country’s competitiveness and increase costs. ICEA is advocating for a reduction in tariffs to align with countries like Vietnam and improve India’s competitiveness in the electronics sector. The industry body recommends starting a targeted tariff reduction exercise in 2023 to address the issue.
