85-year-old dies in fire accident at Kalina SRA building

An 85-year-old man tragically lost his life in a fire accident that occurred in a third floor flat of an SRA building in Sundar Nagar, Kalina, Mumbai on early Saturday. The incident took place in the B wing of the ‘Pride of Kalina’, an SRA building. According to Sunil Gond, a resident of the building, the fire was noticed at around 1.40am. Despite attempts from some residents to control the blaze using extinguishers and water, they were unsuccessful due to the absence of electricity and heavy smoke. The Fire Brigade reached the scene and discovered the deceased, Nagin Lakhu, in the flat. The senior citizen was rushed to V N Desai Hospital but was declared brought dead. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated. Gond mentioned that the victim had been living alone in the flat on rent for about a year, with family members residing in Vakola. The fire was contained within the 225 square feet flat and did not spread to other units in the seven-floor building. ADFO S K Bandgar confirmed that the origin of the fire is under investigation and that the senior citizen was alone in the flat. The tragic incident has left the local community in shock as they mourn the loss of a fellow resident.
