Google Mocks Apple in New Video for Lack of RCS Messaging Support

Google has released a video mocking Apple’s lack of support for RCS messaging on the iPhone. In the video, Google compares the iPhone to an “iPager” because it continues to use the outdated SMS/MMS protocol for messaging with Android users. Last year, Google launched the “Get the Message” campaign to pressure Apple to support RCS on the iPhone, and the campaign is still ongoing. RCS brings several improvements to messaging, including end-to-end encryption and the ability to share high-resolution photos and videos.

According to The Verge, iMessage provides similar features but only for messages sent between other iMessage users. This means that Android users appear as green message bubble nuisances in group messages. The campaign aims to encourage Apple to upgrade to RCS and solve this issue.

The video ends with a link to Android.com/GetTheMessage and showcases the new animated mascot. It is worth noting that while Apple recently released iOS 17 as a new update to its operating system, there is still no support for RCS. Google’s video emphasizes the need for Apple to support RCS and make texting better for everyone.
