Farmers Asked to Insure Paddy and Sugarcane Crops in Erode

The district administration has asked farmers in Erode district to insure their paddy and sugarcane crops under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme). This initiative aims to provide relief to farmers in case of crop loss caused by natural calamities such as floods, droughts, or excessive rain, as well as pest attacks or disease outbreaks. Erode has 28 firkas where paddy is cultivated and 30 firkas where sugarcane is cultivated. Farmers in these areas can get their crops insured by paying a premium. The premium for insuring paddy crop is ₹557.25 per acre, while the premium for sugarcane is ₹3,115 per acre with IFFCO-Tokio General Insurance Company.

To register for crop insurance, farmers should visit commercial banks, cooperative societies, or common service centers in their area. They need to submit necessary land documents such as chitta, adangal, and seed sowing certification, as well as a photocopy of their bank passbook and Aadhaar card. The last date for registration is November 15th. It is advised to register early and pay the premium accordingly to avoid any last-minute rush or exclusion from the scheme.

This initiative aims to provide financial support and protection to farmers in Erode, ensuring that they can recover from any agricultural setbacks caused by natural disasters or unforeseen circumstances.
