The state government of Goa has recently provided below the poverty line (BPL) ration cards to 10 survivors of human trafficking. These survivors had been cheated by individuals who promised them ration cards but failed to deliver. With the assistance of Arz, an NGO, and the Goa State Legal Services Authority, the survivors residing in Mormugao taluka were able to obtain ration cards.

Obtaining a ration card had been a challenging task for the survivors. They had faced disappointments and fraud in their attempts to acquire one. However, this recent development has brought relief and happiness to them. One survivor expressed her gratitude for finally receiving a ration card, while another survivor was pleased that her son’s name was included in the new card.

The issuance of the ration cards to these survivors is seen as a positive response to a Supreme Court judgment. Arun Pandey, representing Arz, stated that the NGO had previously succeeded in obtaining ration cards for 15 other survivors. This achievement is considered a significant milestone in the fight against human trafficking.

Pandey emphasized that these ration cards will enable the survivors and their families to benefit from government schemes that offer subsidized rations. By providing relief in accessing food, it is hoped that this initiative will help improve the lives of the survivors and contribute to their rehabilitation.

This news article sheds light on a crucial aspect of the battle against human trafficking and the efforts made to support survivors. It showcases the collaboration between an NGO, legal services authority, and the government to address the specific needs of survivors. By recognizing the importance of obtaining ration cards and providing them to the survivors, the state government of Goa has taken a step towards ensuring their well-being and enabling them to access essential resources. This development serves as an inspiration to others working in the field of human trafficking prevention and rehabilitation.
