THDC aims to make Rs 12,000-cr project live in Sep

THDC India, a leading power generator, is striving to make its Rs 12,000-crore coal-based thermal power project operational by September. The project, which is located at Rishikesh in Uttarakhand, aims to generate 1,320 MW of power. The company has completed a major portion of the work on the power project and is seeking the assistance of the state government to complete the remaining tasks. Once operational, the project is expected to significantly contribute to the power generation capacity of the state.

THDC India, a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh, is known for its expertise in developing and operating hydro and thermal power projects. The company has been actively working towards increasing its power generation capacity and the coal-based thermal power project at Rishikesh is a major step in that direction.

The project, spread over an area of 250 hectares, will house two units, each with a capacity of 660 MW. It will utilize supercritical technology to ensure maximum efficiency and minimal consumption of coal. The power generated by the project will be supplied to various states in North India, including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Delhi.

Being a coal-based power project, the success of the project will also depend on the availability and timely supply of coal. THDC India has already procured the necessary clearances and coal linkage for the project.

The company has successfully completed the construction of various components of the power project such as the main plant, coal handling plant, ash handling plant, township, and others. It has also commenced various trials and tests to ensure the smooth functioning of the project. THDC India is now focusing on completing the remaining works, including the installation and commissioning of critical equipment.

The company is seeking the assistance of the state government to complete the remaining tasks. It has requested the government to allocate the required funds and provide necessary support to expedite the completion process. The state government has assured its support and has allocated funds for the project in the current financial year.

The completion of the coal-based thermal power project at Rishikesh will not only enhance THDC India’s power generation capacity but will also contribute to the overall power generation capacity of the state. It will help meet the increasing demand for electricity in Uttarakhand and other states in North India, thereby ensuring a consistent and reliable supply of power.

With its focus on renewable and conventional power generation, THDC India is committed to meeting the energy needs of the nation and is actively involved in developing new projects in the hydro, thermal, and renewable energy sectors.
