Patanjali Ayurved Issues Another Apology After Supreme Court’s Request

A day after the Supreme Court asked Patanjali Ayurved, the company issued another apology in the newspapers on April 24. The company, co-founded by self-styled yoga guru Baba Ramdev, faced scrutiny from the court regarding the size and cost of their apology published in the newspapers. In response, Patanjali Ayurved issued a ‘bigger’ apology termed as an ‘unconditional public apology’. The ad expressed the company’s regret for non-compliance with the Supreme Court’s directions and orders. It also apologized for the mistake made in publishing misleading advertisements and pledged to abide by the court’s instructions. Patanjali Ayurved, Ramdev, and Acharya Balkrishna are currently facing contempt action for their objectionable advertisements about ayurvedic products. The court hearing the case raised concerns about FMCG companies employing misleading advertisements and targeting gullible consumers, especially families with babies and schoolchildren. The court urged the government to take action against such companies. In recent reports, Nestle’s baby food products were alleged to have higher sugar content in India, Africa, and Latin America. The Union Consumer Affairs Ministry has ordered an investigation into the allegations against Nestle and other FMCG companies.
