The Indian Consulate in New York has announced that it will remain open throughout the year, including weekends and other holidays, to address the emergency requirements of people. The Consulate General of India, New York stated that it will be open from 2 pm to 4 pm during all holidays, effective from May 10, 2024. This facility is provided for people with genuine emergencies and not for regular consular services. The Consulate advised applicants to call their emergency helpline number before coming in for any emergency service, to ascertain the necessary supporting documents and ensure that the service falls under the category of emergency services. The facility is specifically for emergency requirements of travel documents such as Emergency Visa, Emergency Certificate (for same-day travel to India), and transportation of mortal remains that need to be sent on the same day. An emergency service fee will be charged for emergency visas, as per the Consulate’s practice.
