Juice Centre Sales Surge in Bengaluru Due to Heatwave

As the scorching sun tightens its grip over the city, Bengalureans are flocking to their favourite juice corners for a refreshing and healthy drink, doubling up the sales of various juice centres across the city. Juice centres who got 200 patrons on an average every day during the summer last year, are now getting 450 customers, thanks to the relentless heatwave.

According to Sachin Kumar from Sri Vinayaka Juice in Jayanagar, mosambi and watermelon juices are among the favourites this season. “We make a special juice called Sharjah with frozen milk, banana, and horlicks, which sells a lot,” Kumar said. The juice center, which used to see only 240 people per day, now sees close to 400 per day, with afternoons between 12pm and 4pm being particularly crowded, he added.

Dharmendra Mishra from Shyam Mishra Juice Centre said that tender coconut malai juice, mango dry fruits, badam thandai, and palak juice are some of his delicacies that are good for health and to beat the summer heat. “We have over 15 outlets across the city and we see a 15% growth in sales. Our drinks are usually 350ml and cost around Rs 60. Yet, people consume it to beat the heat,” Mishra told TOI, adding, “Our Nagarthpet store sees nearly 950 consumers per day, while last year, it was only 600 and the favourite drink here is dry fruit shake.”

Prakash Babu, a frequent customer at the store, said that the dry fruit juice is equivalent to a full meal. “They give it in huge glasses filled with cashews, almonds, raisins, walnuts, dry figs, and dates, making it a whole meal. It is also very delicious, and I come almost thrice a week for it,” he said. Another customer, Meghana Shetty, said that her favourite juice is tender coconut that is blended with malai (cream) that costs Rs 30 a cup. “It gives the taste of tender coconut ice cream, which is very yummy and feels nice to drink during hot summers,” she said.

Rathan Juice Centre owner Gururaj Harihar says summer is so hot this time that people are drinking more juices than eating food, as they want to keep themselves hydrated while also feel full. “On average, we are getting about 500 people per day. Tender coconut, mango dry fruit and amla juice are among the favourites.”
